Delete your account
Last updated: 2 October 2026
This page is how you ask us to delete your Woohoo account and the data attached to it. You do not need the app installed and you do not need to sign in. If you still have the app, you can also delete your account from Settings, which is faster because it does not wait on us.
How to request it
Email privacy@woohooau.com with the subject Delete my account.
Send it from the email address on the account. That is how we check that the request is coming from the person who owns the account, so we cannot action a request sent from any other address. You do not need to tell us anything else, and you do not need to give a reason.
If you can no longer reach the email address on your account, write to us anyway from the closest address you have and tell us what happened. We will ask you for something else that only the account holder would know before we delete anything.
What gets deleted
Everything that identifies you is erased:
Your profile: your name, your email address, your age, your gender, your area, and your phone number if you gave us one.
Your photos: every profile photo, both the record of it and the image file itself.
What you wrote: your bio and every profile prompt answer.
Your preferences: what you were looking for, the categories you picked, and the cities you were interested in.
Your sign-in: your login is deleted, so the account cannot be signed into again. Your push notification tokens go with it.
Once this is done, your account cannot be recovered and nothing in Woohoo points to you by name, email, photo, or any other personal detail.
What we keep, and why
We keep a record that the activity happened, with you removed from it. Your connections, chat messages, plans, check-ins and activity history are no longer linked to you, to your name or to anything else that identifies you, but the records themselves remain so that the other people on a plan do not lose their own history and so the venue record of a booking stays intact.
Chat messages are removed in the ordinary course once a conversation has been inactive for 30 days, whether or not anyone has asked for deletion.
Check-in location. When you check in to a meetup we record the location your phone reported at that moment, and we keep that record after an account is deleted. It is the evidence that the meetup actually happened: it is how we tell a genuine attendance from a faked one, and it protects the other person, who turned up and should not have that called into question later. Checking in by location is optional, the code your match shares does the same job, and where there is no location we record that rather than inventing one.
Safety reports. If you have been reported, or you reported someone else, we keep what we need to deal with that report. Deleting an account cannot be a way to erase a safety matter that affects somebody else.
Legal obligations. Where the law requires us to keep a record, we keep it for as long as the law requires and no longer. We do not keep anything on the basis that it might be useful later.
How long it takes
30 days. Your account is scheduled for deletion when we receive your request, and the deletion completes 30 days later. The delay is deliberate: it is a window in which you can change your mind, and it means a request made by somebody who should not have made it can still be stopped. Email us at the same address within those 30 days and we will cancel it.
We will reply to confirm we received your request. If you have not heard from us within a few days, send it again, because mail does occasionally go missing.
